About CAIMS
The Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematics Society • Société Canadienne de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (CAIMS•SCMAI), which dates from 1979, represents applied and industrial mathematics in Canada. The society has become a significant presence in industrial, scientific, and technological circles within and outside of Canada. Our members are active in the education of the next generation of scientists, research on burning issues for society and industry, entrepreneurship and start-ups, and close collaborations with governments. The annual meetings are a destination of choice.
The Society features a Doctoral Dissertation Award programme and sponsors the Nerenberg Lecture Series at the University of Western Ontario.
The Society’s Arthur Beaumont Distiguished Service Award was established in 1987 and honours members of CAIMS•SCMAI for outstanding service to the society or to Applied Mathematics in Canada.
The Society established a Research Prize in 2003, also awarded at the Annual Meeting. Furthermore, two new prizes were introduced in 2010. They are: the CAIMS/PIMS Early Career Award in Applied Mathematics and the CAIMS-Mprime Industrial Mathematics Prize.
In addition, CAIMS•SCMAI is a member society of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, which hosts the prestigious ICIAM Congresses every four years.
Advantages of membership in the Society include free subscription to the Annual Newsletter, subscription to the Canadian Applied Mathematics Quarterly at a discounted rate, registration for the CAIMS•SCMAI Annual Meeting at reduced rates, and affiliated membership in Gesellschaft fur Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik (GAMM) at two-thirds the current subscription rate. The normal annual membership fee is $60.00 for our Society. CAIMS regular members employed outside the USA are entitled to regular membership in SIAM under the reciprocity agreement, at 80% of the regular annual membership rate.
CAIMS•SCMAI publishes a Newsletter once a year, and maintains a web site at www.caims.ca. The membership community is also kept up to date via the E-News, an electronic newsletter which is published several times a year.
The Society contributes to the development and maintenance of Applied and Industrial Mathematics in Canada and worldwide, an endeavour that deserves support. Membership application/renewal forms are available online or by contacting:
