The Mathematical Modeling & Dynamics with Delay workshop was held from June 10-12, 2026 at Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada. It brought together leading researchers in the theory, computation, and applications of delay differential equations (DDEs). DDEs naturally arise in many biological, physical and engineering phenomena. Ignoring time delays can fundamentally change the dynamics of the mathematical model of the system. Furthermore, DDEs are an important and intuitive framework upon which theory on infinite-dimensional systems can be tested and understood – forming a bridge between finite-dimensional theory of ordinary differential equations and the field of partial differential equations.
The workshop consisted of plenary talks, short talks and an early career session, with lively informal discussions over coffee breaks and shared meals. It brought together theory, computation, and real world applications, fostering interactions among researchers from diverse backgrounds who could appreciate the complementary value of these approaches. Held in honour of Professor Tony Humphries’ 60th birthday, the event brought together his students, postdoctoral fellows, collaborators and many potential future collaborators interested in DDEs. The programme featured lectures from internationally recognized experts, with participants coming from Italy, the UK, the USA, New Zealand, Mexico and across Canada. Topics ranged from state dependent delays, multi-stability, resonance phenomena, feedback loops, fractional differential equations, continuous Runge-Kutta methods, sun-star calculus periodic orbits and torus beakdown. Applications spanned biological regulation, climate dynamics, numerical solvers, and bifurcation phenomena. Applications ranged from immune response modelling and erythropoiesis to predator–prey systems and coupled oscillators.
