Item 4 CAIMS*SCMAI Online Memberships and Renewals (by
Lucy Campbell)
= = = =

We are pleased to announce that we now have an online facility to allow CAIMS membership
renewals and new membership applications to be done online through a secure server. We
invite you to renew your membership for 2010 through this facility and to encourage
potential new members to use it to sign up for membership.

There is a link to the online system on the CAIMS main pages www.caims.ca/ and www.scmai.ca
and it can be accessed directly at www.regonline.ca/CAIMS

The first time you sign in, even if you are already a member of CAIMS, you will have to
create a profile and password for the online system, which you will use for subsequent
sign-ins. Once you finish the registration to join or renew your membership, a link will
be sent to you so you can print out an invoice. If you have any questions concerning the
functionality of the system, please direct them to the email address given on the first
page, with cc to the chair of the membership committee, Lucy Campbell <campbell@math.carleton.ca>

We are grateful to MITACS for providing us with this facility and helping us to set it up.
Thanks also to Joshua Dobbs of MITACS and our treasurer Paul Muir who have put a lot of work
into it in the past few months.

Dear Colleagues:

Please circulate to interested students.

Exciting opportunities exist for suitably qualified students to join the doctoral program in the
Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Guelph. Students study either mathematics
or statistics and the program has an applied emphasis, although more theoretical projects are also
available. All interested students are encouraged to apply. Annual stipends at a minimum of $25,000
will be offered, on a competitive basis, to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

Our faculty members are committed to providing a personalized approach to learning for their graduate
students. In addition to making themselves readily available for consultations with students, faculty
members conduct leading-edge research, use innovative teaching methods, are well connected within their
respective professional communities, and are committed to student success. Their dedication creates a
personalized, positive and well-rounded academic environment for our graduate students.

See www.mathstat.uoguelph.ca for further information. Applications will be considered until all positions
are filled.

Best regards,
Brian Allen, Chair
