Special Issue: 2009 CAIMS*SCMAI Election Results for Board of Directors
—————————————————————————–

Elections were held in the summer of 2009 for the President-Elect,
Secretary and
two Members-at-Large on the Board of Directors of CAIMS*SCMAI.

The President-Elect and Secretary positions were filled by acclamation, there
being only one nominee per position. These are Professor Jianhong Wu (York
University) and Professor Abba Gumel (University of Manitoba), respectively.
Professor Wu will serve as President-elect until the 2011 CAIMS*SCMAI Annual
Meeting, when he will become President, and Professor Abba Gumel will be the
Secretary for a two year term, also ending at CAIMS*SCMAI 2011.

We are extremely grateful for the three candidates who put their names forward
for the Members-at-Large positions, Professor Sharene Bungay (Memorial
University
of Newfoundland), Professor Xiao-Wen Chang (McGill University) and Professor
Nicholas Kevlahan (McMaster University). The openings were to fill the
positions
vacated by Professor Victor LeBlanc (University of Ottawa) and Professor John
Bowman (University of Alberta).

On Friday, June 5, 2009, Professor Joseph Williams and Mr. Chandra
Podder (both of
the Department of Mathematics, University of Manitoba) counted the
votes for the
Members-at-Large positions, with the following results:

After counting the ballots, Professor Sharene Bungay and Professor
Nicholas Kevlahan were each declared elected for three-year terms
ending at CAIMS*SCMAI 2012.

We wish once again to thank all those who allowed their names to go forward in
the election and to congratulate those who were elected. We thank Professor
John Bowman and Professor Victor LeBlanc, whose three year terms on the Board
ended at this year’s AGM, for their outstanding service to the Society.
