CAIMS 2015 Annual Meeting
(Deadline for submission of abstracts: March 1, 2015)

You are invited to participate in the 2015 AMMCS-CAIMS Congress, Waterloo, Canada (June 7-12, 2015).

Abstract submission is now open. Plenary speakers at the Congress include R. Albert (Penn State), T. Bielecki (Illinois Institute of Technology), C. Budd (University of Bath), Wing Kam Liu (Northwestern University), S. Mallat (Ecole Normale Superieure), K. Oosterlee (Delft University of Technology and CWI), S. Schreiber (University of California, Davis), E. Vanden-Eijnden (Courant Institute, New York University), Y. Yi (University of Alberta), N. Zabaras (University of Warwick). Refereed proceedings will be published by Springer and selected papers, presented at the conference, will be invited to several journal issues.

The Congress is an international event combining the AMMCS and CAIMS meetings at the same location. It focuses on recent advances in Applied Mathematics, Modeling and Computational Science (AMMCS) and includes major CAIMS Scientific Themes. The 2015 AMMCS-CAIMS Congress is organized in cooperation with AIMS and SIAM and will take place in Waterloo, ON, Canada, June 7-12, 2015.

Fields Institute Director Search

The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences invites applications or nominations for the position of Director for a three- to five-year term (once renewable) beginning July 1, 2015 or as soon as convenient afterwards.

The Fields Institute is an independent research institute located on the downtown campus of the University of Toronto. The Institute’s mission is to advance research and communication in all areas of the mathematical sciences. With 4000 registered annual participants from around the world, its programs bring together researchers and students, commercial and industrial users, and an interested public. Candidates should be researchers in the mathematical sciences with high international stature, strong interpersonal and administrative skills, and an interest in developing the activities of the Fields Institute.

A letter of application addressing the qualities above, together with a CV and names of three references should be sent directorsearch@fields.utoronto.ca. Expressions of interest or nominations are welcome and may also be sent to this address. Women and members of underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

Applications or nominations will be considered until the position is filled, but the Search Committee plans to examine dossiers starting March 1, 2015. The members of the Search Committee are Edward Bierstone (Chair), Sheila Embleton, Susan Holmes, Stephen Kudla, Matthias Neufang, Duong Phong and Cameron Stewart.

Nouvelles du Prix Ibni/News from the Ibni Prize

Cher ami, chere amie,

1) Petition: Vous faites partie des 3527 signataires de la petition sur « Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh » (http://smf.emath.fr/PetitionSaleh/) Il y a 7 ans, le 3 fevrier, Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh a ete enleve a son domicile a N’Djamena par des forces armees. Il est presque certainement mort dans les jours suivants. Nous ne pouvons oublier, nous voulons connaitre les circonstances de sa mort, et que justice soit faite.

2) Prix Ibni: Les trois societes de mathematiques francaises, SFdS, SMAI et SMF ont cree en 2009 un prix Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh, a sa memoire. Il est attribue tous les ans a un jeune mathematicien ou une jeune mathematicienne d’Afrique Centrale ou d’Afrique de l’Ouest et finance un sejour scientifique de quelques mois. Les laureats 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 et 2013 etaient Oumarou Abdou Arbi, nigerien, Amadou Tall, senegalais, Solym Mawaki Sanou Abi, togolais, El Hadji Deme, senegalais et Koffi Wilfrid Houedanou, togolais.

Le laureat 2014 a ete proclame aujourd’hui http://smf4.emath.fr/PrixIbni/. Le nombre de candidatures soumises a été de onze. Après évaluation des dossiers, le Comité du Prix Ibni a décidé à l’unanimité de proposer que le Prix soit attribué a Monsieur David Jaures Fotsa Mbogne. David Jaures Fotsa Mbogne est un doctorant amerounais, assistant a l’Universite de Ngaoundere, qui effectue sa these sur le contrôle optimal des modeles d’équations de dérivees partielles en vue d’applications en epidemiologie et ecologie, sous la direction de David Bekolle, codirigee par Elvis Houpa et Michel Ndoumbe. Il a déja plusieurs publications dans cette thematique. Grace au prix IBNI il effectuera un séjour de recherche a l’Institut de Mathematiques de Marseille, sous la direction d’Etienne Pardoux, pour developper les aspects stochastiques de ses recherches.

Nous n’oublions pas Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh et nous continuons a demander la verite a son sujet au president tchadien Idriss Deby et au president francais Francois Hollande. Nous partagerons en cet anniversaire la douleur de la famille d’Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh et leur exigence de verite.

Dear friends,

1) Petition: You are one of the 3527 signatories of the petition for “Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh ” (http://smf.emath.fr/PetitionSaleh/) Seven year ago, on February 3, Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh was abducted from his home in N’Djamena by armed forces. He died almost certainly soon after. We cannot forget this, we want to know the circumstances of his death, we want justice to be done.

2) Ibni Prize: The three French Mathematical Societies, SFdS, SMAI and SMF have created in 2009 the Prize Ibni Oumar Mahamat Saleh in his memory. It is awarded annually to a young mathematician of Central or West Africa. It funds a scientific visit. The recipients in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 were respectively Oumarou Abdou Arbi, from Niger, Amadou Tall, from Senegal, Solyme Abi Mawaki Sanou, from Togo, El Hadji Deme, from Senegal and Khoffi Wilfrid Houedanou, from Togo.

The recipient of the 2014 Prize is announced today. There were eleven candidates. After evaluation of their applications, the Ibni Prize Committee decided unanimously to propose to give the Prize to David Jaurès Fotsa Mbogne. David Jaurès Fotsa Mbogne, a native from Cameroon, is a teaching assistant at the University of Ngaoundere who is writing a PhD thesis on the optimal control of models of partial differential equations applied to epidemiology and ecology, under the direction of David Bekolle, codirected by Elvis Houpa and Michel Ndoumbe. He already has several publications in this area. The prize will allow him to visit Etienne Pardoux at the Mathematical Institute of Marseilles to develop the stochastic aspects of his models.
