Foundations of Computational Mathematics (FoCM) 2020

FoCM 2020 is the latest edition of the conference series of the FoCM society. Its aims are to promote research at the interface of mathematics and computation, and to foster interaction between mathematics, computer science and other areas of computational science.
The plenary speakers are: Folkmar Bornemann, Sara van de Geer, Philipp Grohs, Alice Guionnet, Thomas Hales, Aicke Hinrichs, Kristen Lauter, Bojan Mohar, Sebastian Reich, Ed Saff, Carola Schoenlieb, Dan Spielman, Rekha Thomas, Caroline Uhler, Mariel Vazquez, Becca Willett, Sara Zahedi.
FoCM features themed parallel workshops, each spanning a three-day period, with the conference comprising three periods in total. Workshop talks are primarily by invitation. There will be sessions during each of the three periods featuring contributed poster presentations. Information about registration and contributed submissions will be announced on the website shortly.
Postdoctoral Fellow: Faculty of Science at Ontario Tech University
Faculty of Science Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow – Continuum modelling of Collective Motion

The Faculty of Science at Ontario Tech University is offering a postdoctoral position in the field of modelling of collective motion with non-local partial differential equations. Host researchers are Luciano Buono and Lennaert van Veen.
The goal of the project is to derive and analyse non-linear, non-local systems of partial differential equations that model collective motion in two space dimensions. We are particularly interested in modelling bacterial motility and the formation of biofilms. Techniques will include (equivariant) bifurcation theory, numerical simulation and assimilation of lab measurements in collaboration with local and international partners. The initial contract will be for one year, with an extension to two years subject to the availability of funds.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in applied mathematics, computational science, mathematical biology or a strongly related field. Prior knowledge of bacterial motility would be an advantage but is not required. The salary of $52,000 per year includes an assignment as a Teaching Assistant and may be augmented by an appointment as a sessional lecturer subject to availability of suitable courses in Fall 2020.
• Experience with programming and numerical simulation in Python, Fortran, C or similar.
• Background in dynamical systems, scientific computing, mathematical biology or a combination of these.
Collective agreement: This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC.
