CAIMS*SCMAI Newsletters summarize all important activities of CAIMS*SCMAI during the year, list all Board Members, Committee Members, Awardees, include minutes of the latest Annual Meeting, announcements related to the next Annual Meeting, announcements related to CAIMS*SCMAI elections, as well as news from mathematical institutes across the country.


2. Call for candidates in the CAIMS*SCMAI 2024 elections, deadline 31-01-2024 (one extra position)

CAIMS*SCMAI will be holding its 2024 elections in March-April 2024.
The open positions are

+ Communications Officer (duration 3 years)
+ Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Membership (EDIM) Officer (duration 3 years)
+ Two Board Members-at-Large (duration 3 years each

Please note that there is one more position open (the EDIM Officer’s position), than anticipated when the previous E-news issue was sent.

The above positions either end in June 2024, or the incumbent wishes to step down.

All members of CAIMS*SCMAI are invited to put forward names of candidates for these offices. Applications should reach the CAIMS*SCMAI Secretary, Christina Christara (secretary@caims.ca) by January 31, 2024.

Once you express interest for a position, you will be asked to provide a short statement (half a page bio and similar information) and a picture of yourself.


3. Queer in Computational and Applied Mathematics (QCAM), Jun 24-28, 2024

Several researchers, including two Canadians are organizing the workshop/conference
“`”Queer in Computational and Applied Math”
to be held at ICERM (The Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics), hosted by Brown University, Providence, RI, USA, in June 24-28, 2024.

This will be the first workshop to celebrate research advances and foster stronger research networks of LGBTQIA+ mathematicians specializing in computational and applied mathematics.

Participation is open to anyone.

The scientific program will have invited speakers and contributed sessions that span the field of computational mathematics, with a planned focus on research in computational methods which may include the following fields:
– Mathematical Biology, Ecology, Epidemiology, and/or Oncology;
– Fluids, Materials, and/or Mathematical Physics;
– Data Science;
– Numerical Analysis and Computational Science; and
– Applied Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Geometry, and/or Topology.

4. Faculty position: University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC),

Department of Mathematics and Statistics, deadline 15-01-2024

The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a proposed starting date of July 1, 2024. As an institution committed to the fostering of an inclusive and transformative learning environment, UNBC values high quality and growth in both teaching and scholarship.

The successful candidate will specialize in areas such as analysis and applied mathematics, computational mathematics. Experience in machine learning, or data science will be considered an asset.
