1. CAIMS*SCMAI 2024, submission of abstracts, early bird deadline April 21, 2024

The Annual Meeting of the Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematics Society • Société Canadienne de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (CAIMS•SCMAI) will take place in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, June 24-27, 2024.
It is organized by Queen’s University and will be held together with the Canadian Symposium in Fluid Dynamics (CSFD), celebrating 50 years from the first CSFD.

Besides invited talks, minisymposia and contributed talks, there will be a poster session:
an excellent opportunity for students to show case their work.

* early bird registration, April 21, 2024
* abstract (mini-symposia and contributed talks) submission, April 21, 2024
* poster abstract submission, April 21, 2024

Review of proposals for contributed talks and posters is ongoing.
Also notice the early bird registration deadline is April 21, 2024.


2. 2024 CAIMS*SCMAI Election Results

This year we had the following open positions:

– Communications Officer (duration 3 years)
There was one nomination for the Communications Officer position:
Iain Moyles, York University,
and Iain Moyles was elected by acclamation.

– Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Membership (EDIM) Officer (duration 3 years)
There was one nomination for the EDIM Officer position:
Giusy Mazzone, Queen’s University,
and Giusy Mazzone was elected by acclamation.

– Two Board Members-at-Large (duration 3 years each)
There were two nominations for the two Board Members-at-Large positions:
Javad Mashreghi, Laval University and
Weiran Sun, Simon Fraser University.
Javad Mashreghi and Weiran Sun were elected by acclamation.

– One-year Member-at-Large position
(to fill the position vacated by Iain Moyles so that he can become
Communications’ Officer):
Eric Foxall, UBC Okanagan, was appointed to that one-year position.

All results need to be ratified at the AGM, Tue, June 25, 2024.

We thank all candidates for volunteering their time for service to CAIMS.


3. Association of Women in Mathematics (AWM), awards

The Association of Women in Mathematics (AWM) would like to encourage you to consider nominating a colleague or student for one of various awards available from the AWM.

Several deadlines are May 15.

publishes a newsletter titled “Dianoia”, approximately 4 times a year.
