1. 2024 CAIMS-Fields Industrial Prize: Huaiping Zhu (York University)

The 2024 CAIMS-Fields Industrial Prize is presented to Professor Huaiping Zhu.
Professor Huaiping Zhu is a leader in infectious disease modelling. Through his work in the Centre for Disease Modelling at York and the pan-Canadian research network OMNI, he advanced the understanding of pandemic dynamics and provided timely guidance for public health policy.

2. CAIMS*SCMAI Research Prize: Hao Wang (University of Alberta)

The 2024 CAIMS*SCMAI Research Prize is presented to Professor Hao Wang in recognition of his outstanding contribution to stoichiometric theory of biodegradation of pollutants and its applications in reducing the greenhouse gas (GHE) emission. His work has significantly helped to reduce GHE emissions from oil sands operation in Alberta, and will also help to reach the net zero GHG emission target in Canada. His stoichiometric approach will continue to influence research in ecology and environmental sciences.

3. 2024 CAIMS/PIMS Early Career Award: David Cesar Del Rey Fernandez (University of Waterloo)

The 2024 CAIMS/PIMS Early Career Award is presented to Professor David Cesar Del Rey Fernandez in recognition of his fundamental contribution to the development of numerical methods for the nonlinear partial differential equations, particularly the high-order accurate summation-by-parts (SBP) methods for compressible fluid equations.

4. 2024 Arthur Beaumont Distinguished Service Award: Thomas Hillen (University of Alberta)

The 2024 Arthur Beaumont Distinguished Service Award is presented to Professor Thomas Hillen, in recognition of his outstanding service to CAIMS*SCMAI as President-Elect, President and Past-President, as Director, for taking on the role of Acting Secretary, for initiating, founding and serving as Editor-in-Chief for the CAIMS*SCMAI journal, Mathematics in Science and Industry, and the CMS-CAIMS book series, for organizing the SIAM-CAIMS Meeting and working to bring the ICIAM Congress to Canada, for creating the CAIMS Blog and GAP-connector, for initiating the CAIMS EDI Committee, and for initiatives that have strengthened ties with the CMS and increased the number of CAIMS*SCMAI Industrial Members.

5. 2024 Cecil Graham Doctoral Dissertation Award: Razan Abu-Labdeh (Memorial University)

The 2024 Cecil Graham Doctoral Dissertation Award is given to Dr. Razan Abu-Labdeh. By developing a new monolithic Newton-Krylov multigrid solver that allows for the use of implicit Runge-Kutta methods in the numerical solution of partial differential equations, Dr. Razan Abu-Labdeh’s doctoral dissertation has provided new numerical tools for the efficient solution of challenging, state-of-the-art problems. Her innovative framework effectively addresses challenges in developing higher-order discretizations for the solution of difficult problems in, for example, fluid flow modeled by the Navier–Stokes equations and magnetohydrodynamics. Her thesis promises immediate and substantial impacts on solving complex fluid dynamics problems with real-world applications.
