1. In memoriam: Siv Sivaloganathan 1956-2025
It is with immense sadness that we share the passing of Professor Siv Sivaloganathan, a distinguished faculty member in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Waterloo and the founding Director of the Centre for Mathematical Medicine at The Fields Institute For Research In Mathematical Sciences. Siv passed away peacefully after a brief illness.
Siv was a lifetime member of CAIMS*SCMAI and recipient of the 2023 CAIMS-Fields Industrial Mathematics Prize, for his contributions in the field of mathematical medicine, and for establishing productive collaborations with leading clinicians at some of the top research hospitals in Canada.
Siv was a visionary leader, a remarkable mathematician, and a passionate advocate for interdisciplinary research, bridging mathematics and biomedical sciences in transformative ways. Through his leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication, he fostered impactful collaborations that shaped the field and inspired countless students and colleagues.
Beyond his academic achievements, Siv was a kind and generous mentor, colleague, and friend. His warmth, wisdom, and dedication to his students and collaborators will always be remembered. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the groundbreaking work he advanced.

2. PIMS Collaborative Research Group: Summer School and Hackathon, apply asap
The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) organizes
the Structure-Preserving Scientific Computing and Machine Learning Summer School and Hackathon, June 16–25, 2025 at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, U.S.A.
Interested graduate students are encouraged to apply early to secure travel funding support and accommodation.
Application deadline: April 15th 2025 or until 40 graduate students have been accepted.
