The Department of Physiology at McGill University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank. The Department of Physiology is seeking applicants who apply artificial intelligence/machine learning to physiological systems. The projected start date for this position is August 1, 2019.
The Department of Physiology (www.mcgill.ca/physiology/) is world-renowned for its interdisciplinary research program, which combines a vibrant community in the mathematical and computational sciences with experimentalists working in a broad range of areas of physiology. The department hosts the state-of-the-art, Advanced BioImaging Facility (ABIF) with expert research staff as well as the longstanding Centre for Applied Mathematics in Bioscience and Medicine (CAMBAM). McGill has several ongoing AI initiatives, is home to the newly created Quantitative Life Sciences (QLS) graduate program and has hired researchers in AI/machine learning across several faculties. The current AI ecosystem in the Montreal area, as well as a diverse faculty of experimentalists and theoreticians in broad areas of physiological dynamics (cardiac physiology, neurosciences, and imaging) make the Department of Physiology an ideal place to launch a research program in AI/machine learning as applied to physiological systems.

- Develop a funded, independent research program;
- Supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows conducting research;
- Teach in undergraduate, graduate, and medical courses;
- Develop new courses and teaching approaches;
- Participate in departmental and university committees and activities;
- Assume leadership roles in the scientific community;
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all the above activities.
Qualifications and Education requirements
Interested candidates must have a PhD degree in physical or biomedical sciences and demonstrated expertise and interest in applying AI to biological problems, with at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: analysis of large image datasets, interpretable machine learning, AI applied to mathematical models of physiological systems, metagenomics and human physiology, and biologically inspired neural networks.
